If Reason Drum Kits can't work, in this way, do you have any recommendations for what will? I've heard about Ezdrummer, for instance. Is there a way to do this? I've looked into Combinator but struck out.īefore downloading this Drum Kits trial, I had been piecing together custom kits in NN-XT, which gave me the flexibility I need, but I was hoping Drum Kits would make this whole thing easier. I need to be able to place and group them however I want. C2 (Hi tom) C#2 (crash) D2 (Hi tom) D#2 (Ride). Reason Drum Kits has a few key mappings on offer but the instruments are typically separated by default, i.e. (*I can adjust the Scale of the note sequence but this is too imprecise too work in the case of triggering these drums.)

The Bop Pad software is limited in that it can only assign adjacent MIDI notes*, so I could program, for example, a quadrant to trigger C1, C#1, D. This works because Logic lets me assign each drum component to an individual MIDI note, i.e. This is good but there's another, even more interesting, app for Bop Pad that let's me program each quadrant's radius so I can play multiple drums in each quadrant.įor instance, in Logic's Drum Designer, I can program Quadrent 1 to have the outer radius be the edge of a ride cymbal, the middle of the radius play the middle of the ride, and the central part to trigger the ride's bell. It has a software setup that lets me control and assign four quadrants of the circular pad. I like the Bop Pad because it lets me play with sticks or hands, without the space or financial investment of a whole e-drum kit.

The value for money is excellent and the choice I would do without hesitation.Hi, I'm trying to map a Kieth MacMillan Bop Pad MIDI controller to a trial version of Reason Drum Kits. But the worst feature is the drumkit itself but the software (a lite version of EZdrummer in my case) that does not support the toms mediums! Making it necessary to buy the normal version if you want to carry on all of the instrument simultaneously. What I like least and I find the same limit is that it does not provide the kick pedal. The ability to suppress the cymbals while the manipulation is not necessarily obvious at first. The interface Trigger I / O is also excellent. The specifics I like most are the toms with skin, offering a touch similar to that of a real drumkit while being only slightly noisy. I turned to this product because I was looking for a USB interface and not midday, BFD or EZdrummer to control the south of my sound card causing me concern. It's $600? Go for it.įirst, we must know that I am not a drummer, even though I practiced the instrument a few years long ago. Takes a little of the humanity away but what can I say.
I had EZdrummer a the time and later Superior. We werent happy with the sounds we were getting with his miced kit. We probably used it for 2 years at least. Anyway, I would still recommend this kit if you have a good drums vsti you want to control. I got this for my drummer to use in the studio a few years ago.

I'm aware there are some of these out there built in the form of a real kit, but in that case.wouldn't it be best to go ahead and splurge for a good miced full kit? I think so. We both felt that the cymbals lacked a human feel that you get with real ones and that's just the nature of things like this. I also used them from time to time for rough ideas and tracking. Which is good because if your hardware doesn't work, no amount of software settings are going to get them to function. Fortunately the alesis has a good velocity to it. Some guys hit harder or prefer a different attack. Depending on your drummer, you may have to adjust some velocity settings. They are very versatile and map well with the alesis. I personally always used the toontrack products. Each setting includes a back-end of various effect chains including the likes of compressors, reverbs, delays and EQs. The effect engine is based around the numerous quality effects in Toontrack’s widely acclaimed EZmix 2. If you have a decent grasp of usb and midi it's not going to be a hassle. EZdrummer 2 has a completely new mixer and collection of effect chain presets, both for the modern and the vintage setup.

The MT Power Drum Kit is a free drum sampler offering the powerful, high-quality sounds of an acoustic, realistic drum kit. The mixer section comes with multi-out vol, pan, and compersion for each individual output, kick, snare, and so on. Out of the box, it doesn't take long to get started. The MTPowerDrumkit2 has one multi-layer drum sampler rock drum kit with a simple mixer and groove library. The price was alright so the purchase was made. We wanted a simple bare bones interface to plug in via USB so we could record using EZdrummer. We weren't happy with the sounds we were getting with his miced kit. I got this for my drummer to use in the studio a few years ago.
